A huge thank you to everyone who has shown love to the comprehensive Resource List! Your engagement and feedback have helped me understand what our community needs most. So, welcome to the first installment of the Resource Spotlight series! As often as I can (it’s a one-person team over here!), I’ll be diving deep into specific topics, curating in-depth resource lists to help you find the support you deserve.
Medical Care & Medication Access – Resource Spotlight
Access to affordable healthcare and prescription medications is a growing concern in the U.S., especially as shifting policies and budget cuts threaten public health programs, unemployment rises, and prices of just about everything are rising. These obstacles coupled with coverage gaps leave more folks without care.
Whether you're uninsured, struggling to pay for medication, facing medical debt, or advocating for your rights as a patient, this guide connects you with the most up-to-date resources available. From low-cost medical services to prescription assistance, legal aid, and patient advocacy, these programs exist to help you navigate the system and get the care you need. You deserve to know about them, and take advantage of their services!
Important note: Some of the resources in this guide are federally funded programs or government-supported services. At the time of publication, they are still available, but as we know, the current political and economic climate is volatile. Programs may change, be defunded, or have eligibility requirements altered. If a resource is no longer available, check with local nonprofits, advocacy groups, and community health centers for alternatives. Reach out if you aren’t sure where to turn, and we’ll do our very best to connect you with relevant local services.

Fighting a Health Insurance Claim Denial
When an insurance provider denies coverage or refuses to pay a claim, patients have the right to appeal the decision. Insurers must explain why the claim was denied and provide steps for challenging it. Appeals fall into two categories:
Internal Appeal: Policyholders can request a formal review by their insurance company. If the case is urgent, the review must be expedited.
External Review: If an internal appeal is denied, patients may request an independent third-party review, ensuring that the insurer does not have the final say over the claim decision.
